Perfect for its niche July 7, 2010

All Swiss Army Knives are compromises, and none moreso than the Classic-sized keychain SAKs. Their tools are necessarily less than ideal, and the tiny handle makes them less hand friendly than larger purpose-designed tools; but they do work, and the keychain format guarantees you'll always have those tools with you when you need them.
The Midnite Manager is quite possibly the best of this size. It's only barely thicker than the Classic, but adds a bottle opener and a tiny functional phillips driver, both of which are indispensable tools when you need one. The tiny blade is only useful for very fine cutting but gets the job done, and the little Victorinox scissors and nail file are the only tools I've used on my fingernails for the last twenty years.
The pen and light follow the same design philosophy: they aren't outstanding at what they do, but are perfectly adequate and guarantee you'll never be caught helpless in the dark or without a way to write.
The white light has fairly limited battery life and isn't as bright or focused as a dedicated pocket flashlight, but that's hardly the point. It gives you plenty of light to walk by or to find a dropped object, and is such a huge improvement over the old red LED versions that there's just no comparison.
I've tried quite a few keychain tools, and for my needs this is the most perfect one currently available.

I use this on a near-daily basis, especially for the light and pen attachments. I do wish it had a bottle opener rather than a can opener, since I use the former more often. However, the very compact size is very handy for attaching it to my beltloop and bringing it with me everywhere.

As you can see by the title of this review, I'm so excited about the new Midnite Manager that I've lost grasp of the English language.
I carried around the older version of this knife for a few years. It was exactly the same, but had a red light instead of the new white light. I often thought to myself "This knife sure is swell, but the red light isn't as useful as a white one would be." Well, Victorinox crawled inside my brain, scooped out that thought, and made it come true!
Every tool on this thing comes in handy, the bottle opener, screwdriver, scissors, blade. Even the tools I don't use very often myself come in handy - my wife is always borrowing it in the car to file her nails, or at the grocery store to cross things off her list with the pen. The new white light is surprisingly bright for its size. You won't be landing airplanes with it or anything, but it's gobs better than the old red one.
It's hard to imagine something as small as this being as useful as it is, but it's just that good. If I ever forget to carry it with me I'm usually reaching for it within an hour for some purpose or another, only to discover that it isn't there. And that's when the sobbing begins.

I love this knife. I had the previous version, which includes a red LED light. I never really understood the purpose of that light - it's so dim. But this new white LED it bright and useful as a flashlight in a pinch. I find myself using the flashlight and pen all the time. This is a great knife!
