About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

5 out of 5 stars Great knife   February 4, 2010

4 out of 5 stars Victorinox Swiss Champ   January 31, 2010
Steven W. Aldrich (Oakland, CA)
The Swiss Champ is one of the most-used tools I have ever had and used throughout my long years as a "tool guy". I have continuously carried one for over 35 years, and whenever one needed repairs, I sent it in to be renewed and simply bought another one to use in the meantime. I love the many, many functions of this tool and never considered the Swiss Champ "over the top" in having too many functions; I use all of them all of the time. My one complaint with these great tools is that the steel is a bit soft and won't hold an edge for very long. The blades also distort and bend far easier than I would prefer, but then, they also never rust or have sharpening problems either. I could not praise these nice multi tools highly enough. They have proved to be invaluable thousands of times for a life long tool guy like myself, and oh yes, I am a career cabinetmaker and woodworker, which probably explains my love for this great knife.

5 out of 5 stars Great companion   January 23, 2010
Sean Morris (Horseshoe Bay, TX USA)
I own several Swiss army knives, and this one is by far my favorite. It has almost every tool that Victorinox makes, yet is very pocket friendly. It it still usable even though it is so big. I love the fish scaler, I know most hate it, but it is very useful as a probe for getting into small, recessed places. If you use your imagination, this Multi tool has unlimited potential. I like it far more than my Leatherman, because each tool actually does the job it was made for plus a myriad of other uses. It is very wide, but not too wide. I use mine many times a day. Great buy, get one ASAP, and you won't regret it!

4 out of 5 stars It is not bad   January 14, 2010

It is OK. but the packaging is a little sloppy. Is it really made in Europe?

5 out of 5 stars Very high quality toy   January 6, 2010
Adrian Michaud (East Coast, USA)
I'm very impressed with the high quality precision ground and polished tools in this knife. This is a very good general purpose Swiss army knife with everything you might need with the exception of a kitchen sink.
