Amazon.com Review
Still made in the village of Ibach, Switzerland, Swiss Army knives have been known for their quality and craftsmanship since they were first introduced over 100 years ago. Easy to carry along in a pocket, glove compartment, tool box, or boat, the Tinker is excellent for impromptu repairs.

The 3-1/2-inch-long knife holds 17 tools in its traditional, red plastic casing. They include: large and small knife blades; a can opener with 3mm screwdriver; a bottle cap lifter with 6mm screwdriver and a wire stripper; scissors; a reamer with sewing eye; a Phillips screwdriver; pliers with a wire cutter/crimper; a multi-purpose hook; tweezers; a toothpick; and a key ring. All blades and tools are made of first-class, stainless steel (except for the plastic toothpick). Tools are separated by rust-proof aluminum alloy, while durable brass rivets and bushings hold knife layers together. This Swiss Army knife is covered by a full, lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Amazon.com Product Description
From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army Knife a century ago comes the Deluxe Tinker, a complete set of tools for campers, hikers, boy scouts, and just about everyone else. Measuring 3-1/2 inches long, the Deluxe Tinker is stylishly cased in a timeless red housing with the familiar Victorinox logo on the side. More importantly, the unit contains 16 stainless-steel and plastic tools appropriate for just about any occasion. The standard tools include a large blade, a small blade, a can opener with a small screwdriver, a bottle opener with a large screwdriver and wire stripper, and a small set of scissors. And that's just the beginning, as the Deluxe Tinker also offers mini pliers with a wire cutter, a reamer with a sewing eye, a Phillips screwdriver, a hook, a toothpick, tweezers, and a key ring. In short, there's no better accessory for camping, hunting, and fishing trips, along with general around-the-house tasks.

As with all Victorinox items, the Deluxe Tinker is made to exacting standards, with dozens of individual parts and hundreds of steps going into its construction. Victorinox attends to every detail, from selecting the finest materials to performing the final inspection. In addition, each individual tool has been hardened in a different way to stand up to its designated use. Outfitted with a plastic housing, the Deluxe Tinker carries a lifetime warranty.

About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

4 out of 5 stars Good for FISHERMAN!!   June 23, 2010
JColez (USA)
I plan to use this knife for BASS fishing... It has great scissors which easily cut 65 pound braided line. But, also, the pliers are really nice, but just the right size for removing hooks deep in a fish's mouth. Of course the knife is really sharp and all the other remaining tools are perfect for camping/fishing/hunting. It's been a very long time since I've had a Swiss Army knife (maybe about 30 years). This knife is high quality and very solid. All the tools/blades/pliers open and shut with nice tension, and good and solid clicking noises. And back to the pliers - they are not cheap, and are really good for small tasks, but aren't intended for mid to heavy duty. However, if you fish, these are really nice pliers and I have my knife tied with a laynard so it hangs on my neck. Great for taking with you to a pond, or your favorite lake. The scissors and pliers have very smooth action and good springs.

Hard to believe you get this pocket tool box for just about $30. Also, it's just about as big as you'd want (about 3/4 inch wide, 3.5 inch long, and 1/2 inch tall). The weight is just a bit heavy, but I don't mind this with pliers and scissors within.
Again, a great fishing/camping knife. I wish mine had a fish hook file, and a wine opener. The hook devise on the back is somewhat wasteful (not sure what I'll use that for). Nonetheless, I give this 5 full stars. Just as great as I remember and it hangs from my neck, or goes nice in my pocket. No need to put it in a case on a belt (although you could do this, but I think it isn't needed).

Update*** - the pliers on this knife are just ok for removing a deep set hook from a larger fish (3 pounds plus).. Also, the scissors still cut braided line, but don't cut it as good as I first thought. This still a great knife, but Victorinox should make one specifically for BASS anglers (which will cut braided line; and they should also design and really good hook remover).

3 out of 5 stars Great, mine came in less than perfect condition   February 20, 2010

Great knife, the Pliers are twice as thick compared to a Wenger Tradesman. This Deluxe Tinker is about the limit in SAK size for pocket knives, any bigger and I would need a pouch.

The Pliers on the Deluxe Tinker are NOT slip joints(the wenger has a slip joint, however it is much smaller)

The knife I got from [...] was packaged good, for new condition it does have "spider web" very fine scratches all over the main blade. The finish on the main blade is a little dull, not as polished as my other SAK's.

Since it is the real thing, I would have expected a perfect scratchless polish right out of the box on the main blade, 3 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Yep, you need a Deluxe Tinker for City life, too!   January 26, 2010

I got the Deluxe Tinker and the "large" leather case (pass on it) from my stepdaughter for Christmas. I get stuck keeping everything fixed at the house, so it was a sweet gift. Frankly, I didn't think a City Guy would need such a comprehensive utility tool, but the girl knows me. I put an aluminum carabiner on and wore the SAK on my jeans for a week to make her feel good. Well, you know the story by now...I used the Phillips head to fix a loose part on my desk chair, I used the toothpick to reset a clock, cut out a UPC with the main blade (sharp!!), clipped price tags off with the scissors, dug out a drawstring from a washed hoodie with the boot lacer, opened a watch back with the short blade, even popped a Yuengling's in the basement...I have never had happier fingers or nails. You won't miss the corkscrew guys. OK, except the airport; the TSA guys think nail clippers are weapons, too. (Land this plane in Beirut, or I'll cut your hangnails halfway!!) Cheers.

5 out of 5 stars Best knife EVER   January 9, 2010

My Victorinox Deluxe Tinker is my constant companion and replaces
a Super Tinker, which was lost. The Tinker Deluxe is a uniformly
superior tool. The blades are super sharp and can be kept
perfectly honed with very little effort on a Lansky Crock Stick
sharpener. Every other tool contained in this knife is tensioned
perfectly for easy opening (which is absolutely necessary due to
my thin, flimsy fingernails). The moveable tools (scissors, pliers,
and tweezers) fit, move, and grasp/cut with absolute precision... a hallmark
of every Victorinox brand tool that I have ever used. If you are
considering a knife/multi-tool you need look no farther. Buy it.
