Amazon.com Product Description
From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army Knife more than a century ago comes the Signature Lite, a handy multi-tool for campers, hikers, boy scouts, and just about everyone else. Measuring 2-1/4 inches long, the Signature Lite is stylishly cased in translucent blue housing with the familiar Victorinox logo on the side. More importantly, the unit contains several stainless-steel and plastic tools appropriate for just about any occasion. The standard tools include a small blade, a nail file with a screwdriver, and a small set of scissors. However, the multi-tool also offers a mini LED Red light (18,000 mcd) that's ideal for power outages or finding your keys in the dark, along with a retractable ballpoint pen.

As with all Victorinox items, the Signature Lite is made to exacting standards, with dozens of individual parts and hundreds of steps going into its construction. Victorinox attends to every detail, from selecting the finest materials to performing the final inspection. In addition, each individual tool has been hardened in a different way to stand up to its designated use. Outfitted with a plastic housing, the Signature Lite carries a lifetime warranty.

About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

4 out of 5 stars Great Knife, not so great LED.   April 30, 2010
S. Brown (San Diego, CA USA)
I had a similar knife that I got as a gift that had a bright white LED on it. When my daughter (yes, I will blame her) lost my key ring, I decided that I really needed to replace my Swiss Army Knife. I guess I should have read the description better, because I did not realize it was a RED LED until it arrived.

As in other reviews, the RED LED is really not that useful. I used the white LED in my old knife many times and it was very handy to have. This RED LED is not as bright and in my opinion, not as useful. I find that when I need a night, I need a bright light, not a red light to perserve my night vision or to be stealthy. This is about the only flaw with this knife.

I have always had a Swiss Army Knife on my key chain since I can remember. All the tools are very useful if they are ever needed. I especially like having a pen handy to jot down phone numbers or notes. If anyone ever needs a pen, they always turn to me and ask if they can borrow mine. So I just hand them my knife.

Overall, a great knife/tool. Just needs a brighter white light.

This is the perfect size and very convenient. I got it for my fiance and said that every man needs one.

Okay, so, I've been a big victorinox fan most of my life. So it was nice to get back to basics.

I originally got this one because I had to switch phones. My last cell phone had a light on it and I felt handicapped without one. I made careful selection of the type of knife I chose to insure that I got a WHITE light. However, the one that shipped had a red one. Thus, one star off.

Also, though it's not shown at all, I though, somehow, that the trusty toothpick and tweezers would be in this model. They aren't. I'll gladly give them both up for the ballpoint pen, but a pen AND light... screw 'em. The scissors are really dinky, smaller than the full-sized ones, or even the wallet card. Still nice an sharp though.

All in all, a welcome addition to my keychain, but I would have preferred getting what was advertised.

I did not pay so much atention for the size. It is really small. But the quality is always good.

4 out of 5 stars Good first Swiss Army knife   January 14, 2009

A bit smaller than expected. Overall it's a good knife. Key chain feature is fantastic. We bought it for my boyfriend's younger brother and he seems to like it.
